Naples Airport will shut to air traffic from 1 to 30 November 2026 for runway and lighting works, with some flights moved to Salerno and extra buses and taxis planned.
Naples Airport, one of Italy's busiest, will be closed to air traffic for the whole of November 2026 so that its runway and connecting taxiways can be renovated. The airport operator's website states that the closure runs from 1 to 30 November for major runway rehabilitation works. According to Euronews, the project costs around €30 million and is meant to secure the long-term safety, reliability and operational continuity of the existing infrastructure.
The works also include replacing and modernising the airport's visual aids lighting, the runway and taxiway lights and illuminated signs that guide aircraft during take-off, landing and taxiing, particularly in poor visibility. Euronews reports that the timing was chosen because November typically sees fewer flights than peak season, and that the work will proceed continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to limit the length of the disruption.
Travellers to the region are being directed to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento airport, where, according to Euronews, some airlines plan to move their aircraft. The operator has published a dedicated notice on flights and transport for Salerno for 1 to 30 November. Euronews reports that extra buses will link Naples Piazza Garibaldi with Salerno Airport throughout the month, rail services to Salerno station will be increased, and a trial shared taxi service with fixed fares will run between Salerno Airport and the Naples and Salerno central stations. Passengers booked to fly in November should check with their airline for the latest information on affected flights.
