Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields have released 'Lost in the Night', the first new music from Dead Man's Bones since their 2009 debut album, with a music video and a promise of more to come.

Dead Man's Bones, the duo of actor Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, has released "Lost in the Night", its first new song in 17 years, according to Rolling Stone. The group had not put out any music since its self-titled 2009 debut album. The single arrives with a music video starring Noah Jupe and Rain Spencer, which follows a couple as they leave a cemetery and wander through a city at night.

Rolling Stone reports that the track opens with an eerie, atmospheric guitar clang before picking up pace, landing between unvarnished post-punk production and arena-sized emotion. It was produced by Tim Anderson, a longtime collaborator who also worked on the 2009 album. Gosling and Shields reportedly spent time moving between studios in Los Angeles without finding the sound they wanted, and eventually found it in a more lo-fi setting: a barn outside the city, equipped with two guitars, two drum machines and a pair of synthesizers.

The return was teased last week, when Gosling's wife, Eva Mendes, shared spooky-season posts joking about trying to "summon new music" from the long-dormant group. The band has not yet shared any information about a new record, though an Instagram post announcing the single promised "More coming soon." Their 2009 album, made with the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir, drew positive reviews at the time before the group quietly disappeared, while Shields has since worked extensively as a writer and producer.
