Twenty years after its release, the 20th anniversary edition of 'The Black Parade' has given My Chemical Romance their first Billboard 200 number one, beating Olivia Rodrigo.

My Chemical Romance have reached the top of the Billboard 200 for the first time in nearly 25 years as a band. According to Rolling Stone, citing Billboard, the 20th anniversary deluxe edition of 'The Black Parade' sold 78,000 equivalent album units across more than 20 formats and variants, enough to take the top slot ahead of Olivia Rodrigo's 'You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love'. The original 2006 album had peaked at number two on the US chart.

The expanded reissue was released on 23 October, and NME reports that it also gave the band their first UK number one album. The rock opera, which produced the Top Ten hit 'Welcome to the Black Parade', has since become widely regarded as a defining rock record of its era. Rolling Stone reports that Rodrigo publicly cheered on the band when midweek projections showed the race was close.

The chart win comes during the band's extended 'Long Live The Black Parade' tour. NME reports that frontman Gerard Way told the crowd at a Hollywood Bowl show that the band wants to make a new record next year and hopes to see fans again in 2028, which would be their first album since 2010's 'Danger Days'. These plans are stated hopes rather than confirmed release dates.
