Two major US cinema chains will not book David Fincher's Netflix film starring Brad Pitt on their Imax screens, leaving AMC and independent theaters for a two-week run from 25 November.

Regal Cinemas and Cinemark have declined to play Netflix's "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth" on their Imax screens, Variety reported on 30 October 2026. The film stars Brad Pitt and is directed by David Fincher. According to Variety's sources, Cinemark also turned down the booking, and the publication said the release plans were first reported by Puck.

The film is still scheduled to play on AMC's Imax screens for a two-week release beginning 25 November, before it arrives on Netflix on 23 December. Variety reports that Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," which premieres on 20 November, is set to occupy most cinemas. Exhibitors would have had to give up some of their Imax screens for that film to make room for a title that streams only a month later, which some circuits refused to do.

With AMC's 200 Imax screens in the United States and several more offered by independent cinemas abroad, Variety says the film will play on more than 500 screens worldwide. Regal has roughly 100 Imax screens and Cinemark about 20, and some smaller chains reportedly will not book it either. Netflix has other theatrical releases planned, including "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew," which is due a wide release of almost 50 days, and it recently reported that "La Bola Negra" grossed over $277,000 in four theaters.
