Sundance Institute has unveiled its Legacy program for the 2027 festival, with restored classics, anniversary screenings and Letterboxd joining as co-presenter.

Sundance Institute has revealed the lineup for the Legacy program of its 2027 festival, which will be the first held in its new home of Boulder, Colorado, from January 21 to 31. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the slate includes works by Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuarón, Justin Lin, Stacy Peralta, Julie Taymor, Barbara Hammer, Patricia Cardoso and Tom Kalin. The program, previously known as From the Collection, showcases independent cinema through archival and restoration screenings and special events.

Among the titles are a new restoration of the 2002 Sundance version of Lin's Better Luck Tomorrow, a digital 4K restoration of Peralta's Dogtown and Z-Boys, and Hammer's Nitrate Kisses. Anniversary screenings include the 35th for Taymor's Fool's Fire and Kalin's Swoon, and the 25th for Cardoso's Real Women Have Curves and a 4K restoration of Cuarón's Y tu mamá también. On the final weekend, a two-part session called Cinema Interruptus will feature a 4K restoration of Nolan's 2000 film Memento, followed by a communal discussion.

The festival also said Letterboxd is joining as a co-presenter of the Legacy program, with details of onsite activations still to come, and that more Legacy programming will be announced in the coming weeks. Festival director Eugene Hernandez said the selections honor the legacy of founder Robert Redford and the festival's history even as the move to Boulder brings change, while programming director Kim Yutani said revisiting restored films in a theater with some of the artists is a rare treat. The new 2027 feature lineup has not yet been announced.
