Mercury Studios says the film and soundtrack of 'Back to the Beginning' will be released digitally and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, CD and vinyl on December 11, with bonus tributes from Dolly Parton and AC/DC, Rolling Stone reports.
Mercury Studios announced on Wednesday that the film and soundtrack of Ozzy Osbourne & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning will be available in digital and physical formats on December 11, according to Rolling Stone. The physical editions are listed as 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, CD and vinyl, and Rolling Stone's coverage also mentions a DVD release. The physical versions of the film are said to include behind-the-scenes footage of the event as well as video tributes from Dolly Parton and AC/DC. Rolling Stone reports that the concert film opened in theaters on the day of the announcement.
The film documents a farewell tribute concert held at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham, England, Osbourne's hometown, on 5 July 2025, just 17 days before he died on 22 July 2025. Rolling Stone says more than 44,000 fans attended, and that acts including Metallica, Mastodon, Slayer and Guns N' Roses paid tribute to the heavy metal pioneer. It was also Osbourne's final live performance, with a solo set and the first reunion of Black Sabbath's original lineup in almost 20 years. The roughly ten-hour event has been condensed into a two-hour concert film.
In a rare interview with Rolling Stone earlier this month, Sharon Osbourne said her husband was extremely proud of the concert and that she believes it will be an important musical artifact, calling it bittersweet but joyous. She said his medical team had advised against the show, but that Osbourne insisted on going ahead, telling the family it was what he wanted. These accounts come from Sharon Osbourne and from Rolling Stone's reporting of the Mercury Studios announcement; release details beyond December 11 and the exact contents of each edition have not been independently confirmed here.
